About Boise County Sheriff's Office

The Boise County Sheriff's Office covers about 1,900 square miles of central Idaho backcountry, starting less than an hour from downtown Boise and running east to the edge of the Sawtooth Wilderness. Deputies work three patrol areas, Idaho City, Garden Valley, and Horseshoe Bend, plus Lowman, Crouch, Banks, Placerville, and Centerville. Horseshoe Bend sits on the Payette River Scenic Byway, Highway 55. Garden Valley is known for South Fork Payette whitewater and hot springs. Idaho City, the county seat and headquarters, is an 1860s gold rush town on the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway, Highway 21, deep in the Boise National Forest. Past Lowman, the highway climbs by Kirkham Hot Springs toward Grandjean, the western gateway into the Sawtooth Mountains. About 8,500 people live here year-round, roughly four per square mile, but weekends bring rafters, campers, hunters, anglers, and snowmobilers. Under Sheriff Scott Turner, the office provides patrol, investigations, civil process, K-9, school resource officers, and search and rescue. The work is as varied as the terrain: a river rescue in the morning, a crash on a mountain pass in the afternoon, a welfare check at the end of a forest road after dark. Deputies here work with real independence, know the people they serve by name, and go home to some of the best hunting, fishing, and backcountry in the West. Its mission: providing excellence in law enforcement through dedication to service in the community.
